David González

Head of Project Finance for Latin America, Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation

  • David González is the Head of Project Finance for Latin America, overseeing all three PF sectors: Infrastructure and Telecom, Power and Renewables, and Natural Resources.

  • David also heads the Infrastructure and Telecom sector, covering (i) Transportation (roads, ports, airports, rail, subways, metros, buses), (ii) social (schools, hospitals, government buildings), (iii) water (desalination, demineralization, wastewater, irrigation, aqueducts), and (iii) telecom (cell towers, fiber optic, cable, data centers).

  • Prior to joining SMBC, David worked as Executive Director for WestLB’ Infrastructure Americas Group (North America and Latin America), Vice President for BBVA’s North America Project Finance Team, and Vice President for Dexia’s Latin America Team. Prior to that, he worked for Standard & Poor’s providing ratings for project finance deals in the infrastructure, power, and oil & gas space. David has a long working project finance experience in the Americas, where he has worked in transactions in the USA, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Peru, Colombia, Panama, Chile, Argentina, Ecuador, Trinidad & Tobago, and Aruba, among other counties.

  • David has been involved in the origination, advisory, execution and syndication of projects with total investments of over USD 50 billion. Some important projects include: Lima Airport Expansion, Mar 1 4G Road in Colombia ($750 million), Spence Desal in Chile, La Bufa Wind Farm in Mexico ($212 million), Trafigura River Transport ($350 million), El Dorado Airport in Colombia ($500 million), Mexico City Airport in Mexico ($3,000 million), Tisur Mineral Port in Peru ($280 million), Lima Metro 2 in Peru ($1,100 million), Longitudinal 2 in Peru ($200 million), among others.
