Fernando Ruíz Gómez

  • Fernando Ruíz Gomez is a physician and master in Economy from Pontificia Universidad Javeriana. He also has a master in Public Health / Occupational Health from Harvard School of Public Health, in Boston, and a PhD in Public Health from Instituto Nacional de Salud Pública, in México.

  • Before being the Minister of Health, he held the position of project scienific director for the Cancer Treatment and Investigation Center. He was also a health consultant for the World Bank, he directed the project and the start up of the first “Centro Integral para la atención al Cáncer” in Latin America, moreover, he was director at Pontificia Universidad Javeriana’s Projects for Develoment Center CENDEX.

  • He held Viceminister of Public Health position between 2013-2016.

  • Ruíz held the position of regional director of Health, in Bogota, where he implemented the district health policy, in the city’s most vulnerable area, and was co-founder and first president of the Colombian Association of Health Economy (Acoes).

  • He has directed projects as consultant for organizations like the World Bank, the Interamerican Development Bank, the Panamerican Organization in different health issues. He also made part of the Executive Committee of the World Health Organization.

  • In addition, he has been a researcher at Colciencias and a professor at the Seminar about inssurance and health markets of the Master in Health Economy at Pontificia Universidad Javeriana. For more than two decades he has developed researches in health systems and services, and in health insurance topics.

  • On February 2020, he was assigned as Minister of Health by the President Iván Duque.
