Rodrigo Suárez

Director of the National Authority for Environmental Licensing (ANLA)

  • Rodrigo Suárez Castaño is an Environmental and Sanitary Engineer from the Universidad de la Salle and Administrator of Natural Resources from the Universidad Santo Tomás, and a specialist in Public Management and Administrative Institutions from the Universidad de los Andes. He has been working as director of the ANLA for 2 years.

  • He has more than 15 years of experience in the public sector, working for several years as coordinator of projects for monitoring discharges and water resource quality and air quality at the Institute of Hydrology, Meteorology and Environmental Studies (IDEAM). In 2007 he joined the Ministry of Environment, Housing and Territorial Development, supporting the formulation of air quality policy and its regulatory implementation.

  • Between January 2012 and March 2013 he was Deputy Director of Environmental Instruments, Permits and Procedures of the ANLA and, before assuming his current position, was Director of Climate Change at the Ministry of Environment, where he led the processes of the Low Carbon Development Strategy, the Climate Change Adaptation Plan and the REDD+ Strategy, developing projects at the national, regional and sectoral levels. As Director has also contributed to the international negotiations of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), and led the definition of Colombia's contributions in the areas of mitigation, adaptation and implementation, as well as the process of formulating climate change policy and the proposed law.
