Yaneth Giha

Executive Director Afidro

  • Giha was born in Barranquilla and is an economist from the Universidad de Los Andes. She has a specialization in Conflict Resolcution and a Master’s degree in Political Studies of the Javeriana University as well as a Master’s degree in War Studies from the King’s College in London.

  • She started her profesional career in the Military Forces Division of the National Planning Department (DNP) and in between 1999 and 2002 she was elected executive Director of Defense and Security of the DNP. Afterwards, between 2003 and 2004, she was an advisor to the Vice Minister of Defense for Institutional Management, Andrés Soto Velasco.

  • Between 2004 and 2005 she was advisor to the Vice Minister of education, Javier Botero, and she also collaborated with the Vice Ministry of Preschool, Basic and Secondary Education.

  • In 2006 she served as the PostConflict director of the Foundation Ideas para la Paz and then she returned to the Ministry of Defense where she stayed until 2009 as Director of Planning and Budgeting of the Defense Sector and Director of Information Management and Technology.

  • Furthermore, she was the Innovation Director of the Chamber of Comerce of Bogotá and Ofice Director of Global Comprehensive Development (GCD) in Colombia, a company that promotes foreign investment in Colombia.

  • In 2010, president Juan Manuel Santos appointed her as Rodrigo Rivera's Vice-Minister of Strategy and Planning at the Ministry of Defense, and then moved to the Vice-Ministry of the Social and Business Group of the Defense sector.

  • Starting the second term of Santos she was appointed as Director of Colciencias where she stayed until November 2016 where she became Minister of Education replacing Gina Parody and in representation of the olitical party of The U. She served until the 7th of August of 2018, year where the Santos’ second period of presidency ended.

  • In January 2019 she was elected as Executive President of Afidro Colombia and has been in office to this day.
